‘Cendrillon’ to be simulcast

ELLSWORTH — The New York Metropolitan Opera’s production of “Cendrillon,” Jules Massenet’s take on the Cinderella story, will be simulcast in high definition at The Grand on Saturday, April 28, at 1 p.m.

“Glorious,” raved The New York Times when Joyce DiDonato sang the title role of Cendrillon at the Royal Opera in 2011. “Her performance was thoroughly enchanting.” DiDonato shares the stage with mezzo-soprano Alice Coote in the trouser role of Prince Charming, Kathleen Kim as the Fairy Godmother and Stephanie Blythe as Madame de la Haltière.

Bertrand de Billy conducts Laurent Pelly’s storybook production. The estimated running time is 2 hours, 47 minutes with one intermission.

Local sponsors are Rooster Brother, Richard Parks Furniture Gallery, Serendib Restaurant and Route One Oil Change.

Tickets cost $27 for adults, $25 for Grand members and $20 for students 15 and under.
