Book sale, preview party planned

BAR HARBOR — The Jesup Memorial Library’s 47th annual book sale is planned for Saturday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Thousands of books, videos, audiobooks, CDs, records, magazines and more will be available to purchase. All proceeds go directly to the Jesup.

From now until the sale, the public can see raffle items and purchase tickets. The library has its $1 restaurant raffle, featuring gift certificates to many of Bar Harbor’s restaurants, along with a great selection of items from local businesses and artists. Bake sale goodies also will be available the day of the sale.

Also, the library is having a special preview party, a “Prologue Sale,” on Friday, Aug. 19, from 4:30-8 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served as guests shop for books the day before the annual book sale.

Attendees can shop the sale a day early while enjoying jazz music by the Sam Reeves Quartet. There will be a silent auction of items including a Rocky Mann platter, breathtaking artwork from local artisans, a beautiful hand knit shawl by Beth Kidder, a felted hat by Hurshey Somer and more. Tickets cost $25.

As always, the Jesup welcomes volunteers. Help is needed before, during and after the sale, and volunteers can sign up at the circulation desk.

Contact the Jesup at 288-4245 or [email protected].

The Jesup Memorial Library is a private nonprofit, though it serves as the public library for Bar Harbor. The library receives less than 5 percent of its annual funding from the town. Endowments provide 49 percent. Events like this are a fun way to fill the gap.
