BAR HARBOR — The second annual Murder by the Book mystery festival for readers and writers will take place at the Jesup Memorial Library on Friday, Sept. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 1.
Some of the great writers coming this year include Hank Phillippi Ryan, Julia Spencer-Fleming, Dorothy Cannell, Gayle Lynds, Kate Flora, Bruce Robert Coffin, Roger Guay, Vaughn Hardacker, Chris Holm, Maureen Milliken, Katherine Hall Page, Lynne Raimondo, Brendan Reilly, Barbara Ross, John Sheldon and Lea Wait.
On Sept. 30 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., the public can meet and mingle with the writers at a wine reception and then get a glimpse of murders to come as a few authors read from unpublished works-in-process. This is an exclusive, ticketed event. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the library in person, by calling 288-4245 or online at www.jesuplibrary.org.
Then on Oct. 1, the library transforms into a mecca for all things mystery. Starting at 8:30 a.m., the library will be full of panel discussions, writing workshops and a keynote talk with Hank Phillippi Ryan at noon. Authors also will sign copies of their books, on sale courtesy of Sherman’s. Other panelists include journalists, marketing specialists, law enforcement professionals and even a forensic scientist. Some of the topics of the talks and programs include breaking Maine stereotypes in writing, if what’s written could actually happen in real life and a little romance in mystery. There is no charge for any of the events on Saturday. They are free and open to everyone, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce and Sherman’s Books are co-sponsors of this event. Contact the Jesup at [email protected] or 288-4245.
