Bean supper, panel to explore local food traditions

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island Historical Society’s 7th annual Bean Supper will take place at MDI High School on Monday, Jan. 22, from 6-8 p.m. Rachel A. Snell will moderate a special panel at the supper.

Community bean bakers will present their versions of this classic New England staple, accompanied by sausages, brown bread, coleslaw, pickles, rolls and cookies. After supper, the panel will explore local food traditions from agricultural, culinary and historical angles, featuring perspectives from Amanda Kendall of Sassafras Catering, C.J. Walke of Peggy Rockefeller Farms and Emily Damon of the Mount Desert Elementary School and Islesford Dock.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children and will be sold only at the door.
