Bangor Ballet on stage at MDI High School

BAR HARBOR — The Bangor Ballet will conclude its season with a performance of “Hooked on Classics: Back to Bach and Off to Offenbach” at Mount Desert Island High School on Sunday, June 5, at 7 p.m.

The program showcases the work of five Maine-based choreographers and includes music by Jules Massenet and Icelandic composer Olafur Arnalds, as well as Bach and Offenbach.

In addition to the talented dancers of Bangor Ballet, the program features a guest appearance by Bangor Ballet alumnus Riley Watts. Watts recently completed a world-wide tour with acclaimed ballerina Sylvie Guillem. He and fellow Juilliard School graduate Michelle Mola will perform an original duet they have created especially for this production.

The program also includes a Balanchine-inspired short ballet choreographed by Ivy Clear-Forrest, a contemporary work by Augusta-based Andrea Michaud Tracy, a bolero by L.J. Demetita of Beals Island and choreography to Offenbach’s “Gaite Parisienne” by Katrina Smedal, former Bangor Ballet dancer and Portland-area teacher.

Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for students or seniors 65-plus and $8 for children age 12 or under. Tickets are available locally at Sherman’s Bookstore or by calling Bangor Ballet at 945-5911.
