ELLSWORTH — The Bagaduce Chorale will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s oratorio “St. Matthew Passion” at the Ellsworth High School auditorium on Saturday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, May 12, at 3 p.m.
“Bach showed a strong desire to create vocal music that was in the native tongue of his listeners, and I think it honors the spirit of his work to perform it in the language the audience will most readily understand,” said Bronwyn Kortge, the ensemble’s music director.
The performance will feature a double chorus, the ECMI Youth Chorus, the GEM Orchestra and soloists Katelyn Parker Bray, Isaac Bray, Frank Bachman, Amy van Meteren, Tim Ensworth, Saphrona Stetson and Geoffrey Knowles. Colin Graebert will be on keyboards and Anatole Wieck will be the Concert Master.
Tickets are available for $20 at Sherman’s Bookstore in Bar Harbor and the Southwest Harbor Public Library. Student admission is free.
