Polar Plunge swimmers discuss why they brave the cold

A group of swimmers plunged into the cold Gulf of Maine water Sunday morning at Sand Beach to celebrate the new year. Some took advantage of the relatively warm weather and went for multiple plunges. “If you can jump in the ocean in Maine in January,” participants said, “you can do anything!”

Another “Polar Plunge” event organized by the Tremont Fire Department met at Back Beach.
