Tufted titmice flock to Southwest Harbor

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — A carving show and holiday open house at the Wendell Gilley Museum will take place on Sunday, Dec. 14, from noon to 4 p.m.

A fresh flock of tufted titmice has fledged at the hands of Carver-in-Residence Steven Valleau and members of his fall carving classes. Simple ornaments from the one-day workshop and detailed pairs of titmice created over a 10-week period will be on view along with other recent bird carvings by museum members.

Come meet the carvers and bring your friends and family to the Gilley for carvings, camaraderie and a cup of cheer. Cozy up with some refreshments next to the museum’s Finnish fireplace, admire your neighbors’ talents and learn how you can get in on the fun this winter.

The Gilley Museum welcomes all to attend this festive gathering, with gratitude to those whose giving made all of this year’s exhibits and programs possible.

Hours for the museum galleries and gift shop are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., through Dec. 14.

Although Dec. 14 is the final day the gallery will be open till May, the Gilley offers year-round programs. Stop by the open house or call the museum at 244-7555 to find out more about member’s carving club and winter 2015 classes or to arrange to bring a school group or scout troop for a visit.
