Shaw Jewelry to host art exhibits

“Azo Yellow with Boat,” mixed media on canvas by Carole Bolsey.

NORTHEAST HARBOR — Shaw Contemporary Jewelry is hosting bi-monthly art exhibitions throughout the summer season.

On Thursday, July 21, Shaw Jewelry and the Sunne Savage Gallery will hold a reception from 5-7 p.m. for Carole Bolsey and John Thompson. An installation of the artists’ work will run through August 3.

Bolsey paints geometry. She loves boats, but on her canvas the type of boat is less important than how it casts a shadow, disturbs the water or introduces color. This is Bolsey’s second exhibition in Northeast Harbor. She lives and works in Kingston, Mass.

Thompson’s observations of landscapes often describe a small moment of a small detail. Patterns emerge, and the accidents of weather and influence are perceived and recorded. This is his first exhibition in Northeast Harbor. John’s print studio is in Waltham, Mass.

The Sunne Savage Gallery, based in Winchester, Mass., began exhibiting art in Northeast Harbor in collaboration with the Wingspread Gallery in the 1980s. Since then, the gallery has contributed to the Mount Desert summer art scene with installations at College of the Atlantic, Star Gallery, The Jackson Laboratory, Rusticator, Tim Murphy Studios and Shaw Contemporary Jewelry.

Shaw Contemporary Jewelry opened for business in 1981. Its gallery is open all year. Visit the gallery space at 128 Main St. in Northeast Harbor from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily or online at
