Seal Cove Auto Museum events planned

TREMONT — The Seal Cove Auto Museum is holding three events Aug. 20-22: an automobile cruise, a display of historic cameras and Electric Car Day.

The action begins with a Cruise to the Quietside on Thursday, Aug. 20. All are invited to cruise to the Seal Cove Auto Museum on this day with their “pride & joy” automobile to show it off to fellow car aficionados. Whether it is an antique, a classic, a hot rod, a motorcycle or something else entirely that defies categorization, the museum wants it to be seen.

“Eat at Joe’s” Farm Fresh food service will be there with locally sourced burgers, sandwiches, salads and more. The cruise-in runs from 12-7 p.m., with free admission to the museum after 4 p.m.

On Friday, Aug. 21, artist Albert Mach will display his collection of Brass Era cameras, including a number of large historic view cameras from around 1900 and other cameras used at the turn of the century and earlier. Mach will also display his prints of brass era autos, many taken of the collection at the Seal Cove Auto Museum, and discuss his techniques and processes.

The opening reception, which will include coffee, juice and Sheila’s Gourmet Cookies, will run from 5-8 p.m. Friday evening; the cameras and artwork will remain on display throughout the weekend.

The weekend’s events conclude with Electric Car Day on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors will learn about the role of electric cars in the earliest days of car manufacturing, exploring some of these earliest electric cars, such as a vehicle from 1913 built by the Maine-born C.P. Kimball or the 1908 Rauch & Lang, which led this year’s Fourth of July Parade in Bar Harbor and in which rides will be offered to visitors throughout the day. Visitors also will have the opportunity to consider the future of electric cars, such as examining a Saab that has been converted to electric power.

All of these events are open to the public.
