Quietside Chamber Music Festival continues in Somesville

SOMESVILLE — Cellist Sarah Shreder and pianist Christina Spurling will perform music by Shostakovich, Cassadó and Brahms in a concert at Somesville Union Meeting House on Saturday, July 31, at 7 p.m. 

Opening the evening’s concert will be a local youth trio featuring Jane Pope, violin, Cate Pope, cello, and Eva Crikelair, piano, performing a piece by Cecile Chaminade.  

Shreder has performed throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. She is currently performing with the Bridgeport, Ridgefield and Wallingford symphonies and is professor of cello at the University of Bridgeport. She received bachelor’s degrees in both cello performance and fine arts management from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree in cello performance from the University of Connecticut, where she studied with Kangho Lee. She currently lives in Stratford, Conn., with her husband and her two young children.  

Spurling has performed with the Boston Opera Collaborative, the Newburyport Candlelight Chorale, the Cape Ann Symphony, Acadia Choral Society, Bagaduce Chorale and the Bar Harbor Music Festival. She earned a master’s degree in collaborative piano performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, Mass. She is collaborative pianist for the music department at Colby College, music director at the Somesville Union Meeting House UCC and teaches piano from her home in Mount Desert. She founded and directs the Quietside Chamber Music Festival. 

There is a $20 suggested donation at the door or reserve tickets on Eventbrite. Masks are required.
