MDI Open arts show set

MOUNT DESERT — The Shaw Gallery has set the dates for the Mount Desert Island Open arts show, an exhibition of local creative talent. The show will begin with an opening reception on Thursday, May 21, and run through June 10.

The show is open to anyone who lives, works or has any association with MDI. Submissions of paintings, sculptures, photographs, prints, crafts or mixed media are welcomed as long as the artist is proud of the work.

The optional theme of this year’s show is “Moods of Somes Sound.” Any aspect of the sound is appropriate, whether it be details, long views, the ocean, the surrounding mountains or whatever springs from the imagination. Works will be grouped so that related images tell a familiar story.

Last year’s Mount Desert Open was an overwhelming success. It included 55 artists working from exploratory to realistic, from watercolor to weaving. This year’s show is expected to be equally popular. Space is limited and always fills fast.

Any resident of MDI or anyone having a MDI affiliation is welcomed to exhibit. There is no jury process, but your work must be matted, framed and ready to hang, or presented in a professional manner.
