MOUNT DESERT — An opening reception for an exhibition of landscapes by Mary Prince will be held at Artemis Gallery, 1 Old Firehouse Lane, Northeast Harbor on Thursday, July 16.
The exhibition will include a dozen of the artist’s paintings and monotype prints of scenes of Mount Desert Island and her hometown, Jonesport. This two-week show will include the work of Skye Brickley, Heidi Daub, Jennifer Judd McGee and Mary Prince.
Each of the artist’s prints is a unique impression pulled from a carborundum plate. This technique imparts a grainy, atmospheric texture to her tightly composed scenes.
Prince grew up in the coastal regions of Virginia and North Carolina. She has studied printmaking with Tony Kirk of the Center for Contemporary Printmaking and Marjorie Van Dyke of VanDeb Publications. Prince’s paintings and prints are in the collections of Susan and David Rockefeller and Charles Butt.
The artist currently works from the landscape, the figure and still life in a variety of mediums, including oils, watercolor, ink wash, collage and prints. She resides in New York City and Addison.
