SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Legends of gnomes, fairies and elves will be performed at the Southwest Harbor Library Thursday, Aug. 2, at 6:30 p.m. by the library’s Summer Story Campers with help from Nate Speare of Nekyia Theatre.
This event is part of the library’s Family Concert Series on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in July and August.
Speare will be an artist in residence at the Barn Arts Collective that week, working on a new piece called “The Gnomes of Bass Harbor.” It will be performed at the Barn Saturday, Aug. 4, at 7 p.m.
Nekyia Theatre is a New York City and Puebla, Mexico,-based laboratory “that searches for the intersections of theater and metaphysics,” according to the group’s website. References and inspiration for the group’s work include PanTheatre, the Roy Hart Theatre, Odin Teatret and Butoh.
“Nekyia Theatre gathers and moves forward a dialogue of voices in the realms of archetypal psychology, astrology (and all divination), tantric buddhism, and the voices of the lineage of Dia de los Muertos,” a statement on the website says.
