Garden Club announces contest winners

BAR HARBOR — The Bar Harbor Garden Club, member of the Garden Club Federation of Maine, has announced the winners of the Youth Activity Contests for 2014/2015.

In the Youth Poetry: Good Stewards of the Earth contest, one winner is kindergartener Heath Merriwether, sponsored by her grandmother, Margot Haertel, member of the Bar Harbor Garden Club.

Another winner in the competition is first grader Erik Merriwether, also sponsored by his grandmother, Margot Haertel.

In the Youth Sculpture: Keep Our Planet Green competition, sixth grader Rena LeClair of Mount Desert Elementary School won first place. Seraphina Gillman, also a Mount Desert Elementary School sixth grader, was named runner up.

Honorable mention awards went to the following students in the 6th grade at Mount Desert Elementary: Rider Watson – Tree Hugger Award; Porter Issacs – Recycle Award; and Austria Morehouse – the World as a Flower Award.

The Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl Poster contest was won by Aleksandra Hanley, a third grader at Mount Desert Elementary School, and Ayli Grace Munro, a fifth grader at Conners-Emerson School.
