Criterion to host ‘Star Wars’ premiere

BAR HARBOR — The Criterion Theatre will host the only early premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in Hancock County, on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.

In honor of the cinematic sagas, the theater is preparing for a multi-day celebration of Star Wars as it marches towards the official premiere on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. following a costume parade.

“The Criterion Theatre is beyond excited to work within the community to celebrate a new era of cinematic Star Wars here in Bar Harbor this December,” said Steven Boucher, board member and the event’s committee chairman.

All the Star Wars movies will play for consecutive nights beginning Dec. 11. At the same time, the Criterion plans a host of other events and activities to celebrate the universe of Sith and Jedi. From costume contests to trivia nights, from cantina drinks and atmosphere, to photo booths, music, fan art contests, memorabilia and a Jedi Light Saber Academy with a real Jedi master fencing instructor, it’s going to be a whole new universe in Bar Harbor.
