Acadia Night Sky Festival announces poster contest

BAR HARBOR — The third annual contest to solicit artwork for the Acadia Night Sky Festival poster is open.

The festival’s marketing committee is looking for a piece that portrays Acadia or another place Down East in a recognizable way, with celestial objects included in the composition. The winning image will be featured on the 2016 festival poster, brochure, website and all related marketing materials. The chosen artist will receive two round-trip tickets between Bar Harbor and Boston courtesy of Cape Air.

“The winning image will effectively become the face of the 2016 festival,” said Alf Anderson, co-chair of the Acadia Night Sky Festival marketing committee. “The selection process will allow us to find that next iconic image for the festival.”

Photographers and artists over the age of 18 are welcome to submit images. The contest will accept submissions through Sunday, March 20. For full terms, rules and conditions, visit acadianightskyfestival.org or email [email protected].

The Acadia Night Sky Festival is a community celebration to promote the protection and enjoyment of Down East and Acadia’s stellar night sky as a valuable natural resource through education, science and the arts.

Leadership is provided by a volunteer committee of individuals and organizations including the Abbe Museum, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Acadia, Jackson Laboratory, Jesup Memorial Library and the Southwest Harbor Chamber of Commerce.
