Abbe sets full summer schedule



BAR HARBOR — The Abbe Museum has planned events for July and August, including a “Cultural Connections in the Park” series, the Native American Festival, workshops and archeological experiences.

JULY

Friday-Saturday, July 17-18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Basket Workshop with master basket maker Molly Neptune Parker, Passamaquoddy, at the Abbe Museum, 26 Mount Desert St. Attendees will learn how to weave their own lidded fancy basket. Registration required, space limited. $120 for Abbe Museum members, $160 for non-members. Call 288-3519 or email [email protected].

Wednesday, July 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Ash pounding with Eldon Hanning, Mi’kmaq, at the Jordan Pond House lawn, Acadia National Park. Sponsored by Dawnland LLC in partnership with Acadia National Park. Free and open to the public.

Tuesday-Thursday, July 28-30, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Birch bark wikuwam with David Moses Bridges, Passamaquoddy, at Sieur de Monts Spring lawn, Acadia National Park. Sponsored by Dawnland LLC and Acadia National Park. Free, open to the public.  Free and open to the public.

Wednesday, July 29, at 5 p.m.: Abbe Museum Gathering Gala. The evening at the Bar Harbor Club, 111 West St., begins with a silent auction, cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres and is followed by a sit-down dinner, live auction and entertainment. AUGUST

Sunday-Friday, Aug. 2-7: Abbe Museum 2015 Archaeological Field School. This field school offers first-hand experience in an archeological dig. $350 for Abbe Museum members, $400 for non-members. Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Beaded Loom workshop with Martha Newell, Passamaquoddy, at the Abbe, 26 Mount Desert St. Each student will design and create their own bracelet to take home at the end of the class. Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 6:30-8:15 p.m.: Storytelling and music performance with Hawk Henries, Nipmuck, at Blackwoods Campground Amphitheater, Acadia National Park. Sponsored by Dawnland LLC and Acadia National Park. Free, open to the public.
