All State musicians announced



BAR HARBOR — Mount Desert Island High School will again be the best-represented high school in the state at the Maine Music Educators Association’s (MMEA) All State Festivals in 2019.

Of the 29 MDI musicians to audition for the MMEA Jazz All State groups, ten were accepted, MDI music teacher Michael Remy said. They are Alain Zhang (jazz band), Irene Choi (jazz band), Molly Collins (jazz band), Alec Fisichella (honors jazz band), Adam Christianson (honors jazz band), Alex Eason (SATB chorus), Finn Hansbury (SATB chorus), Carolyn Graber (SATB chorus), Ivy Sanborn (SSAA chorus) and Bella Walke (SSAA chorus).

These students will participate in the MMEA Jazz All State Festival in South Portland Jan. 3-5, 2019, with a culminating concert on the evening of Jan. 5.

For the MMEA Classical groups, 17 of 34 MDI students who auditioned were accepted. They are Alain Zhang (band), Carolyn Graber (band), Alec Fisichella (band), Quentin Pileggi (orchestra), Dani LeDuc (orchestra), Jane Pope (orchestra), Cate Pope (orchestra), Alex Eason (SATB chorus), Ashley Graves (SATB chorus), Finn Hansbury (SATB chorus), Winslow Jeffery (SATB chorus), Oriahnna Kelley (SATB chorus), Sarah Knox (SATB chorus), Claire Shaw (SATB chorus), Moxie McBreairty (SSAA chorus), Ivy Sanborn (SSAA chorus) and Bella Walke (SSAA chorus).

They will participate in the MMEA Classical All State Festival at University of Maine in Orono May 16-18, with a culminating concert on the evening of May 18.

MDI High School also plans to send a big band and a combo to the Berklee Jazz Festival Jan. 26.
