Girls 4th, boys 7th at regional championships

ORONO — The Mount Desert Island High School girls’ and boys’ indoor track teams finished fourth and seventh, respectively, at Saturday’s regional indoor track championships at the University of Maine.

The girls’ team’s fourth-place finish was one of the best of the season. Senior Ashley Anderson set two facility records with times of 7.39 seconds in the 55-meter dash and 25.97 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Elsewhere for the MDI girls, Alicia Norberg and Dori LeMoine finished a respective second and fourth in the shot put. Zoe Olson’s 800-meter run time of 2 minutes, 26.91 seconds earned her second in the 800-meter run for MDI, which finished behind Brewer, Hampden Academy and Bangor, with with 40 points.

On the boys’ side, MDI finished with 18 points to finish ahead of Ellsworth, Orono, Searsport, George Stevens Academy, Central, Mattanawcook Academy, Bucksport, Sumner and Bangor Christian. Croix Albee, Gilbert Isaacs and Sam Hoff placed second, third and fourth, respectively, for the Trojans.

The team will be in action for the season’s final meet when they participate in the Class B state championships at Bates College on Saturday, Feb. 17, at noon.
