MOUNT DESERT — The Garden Club of Mount Desert is presenting a Garden Club of America Flower Show on Friday, July 24, at the Union Church, 21 Summit Road, Northeast Harbor. The theme of the show, chaired by Freddy Shaw, is “The County Fair.”
Kita Reece, president of The Garden Club of Mount Desert, said “the entire club is working hard on the show. It’s such a fun theme that will be evident throughout the floral design, horticulture, photography and conservation exhibits. There will also be children’s entries.”
The floral design classes will include traditional, contemporary and abstract arrangements. Horticulture will have exhibits of annuals, perennials, roses and bulbs. Black-and-white and color photos of stairs, water and single blooms will be featured in the photography classes. Finally, the conservation division will highlight Partners for Plants, a program of the GCA and other conservation organizations, which focuses on the impact of the changing environment on all living creatures. In keeping with the “The County Fair” theme, the classes will have clever names such as “Tilt-a-Whirl,” “Merry-go-Round” and “Dunk Tank.” All entries will be judged according to GCA guidelines.
The show is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
