Create a DIY smart home

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The Southwest Harbor Public Library will host a hands-on preview of the newest development in electronic do-it-yourself kits, Littlebits, on Thursday, June 18, at 2 p.m.

This demonstration is the debut of the next module of the Maine State Library’s Technology Petting Zoo. Library Assistant Director Kate Pickup McMullin will show examples of snap-together devices that can turn your home into a smart home in minutes. With these devices, you can check the temperature of your home or set up a motion sensitive sculpture that lets out a warning sound and turns on a light.

The Maine State Library created a “Technology Petting Zoo” of devices for librarians and patrons to learn and experience popular and emerging technology. The Southwest Harbor Public Library has hosted the e-reader and tablet Technology Petting Zoo Module and is pleased to be the first library in Maine to introduce this newest offering.

Call the library at 244-7065.
