Stone sculptor Mark Herrington and geologist Harold W. Borns are the first speakers in the series, held in the lab’s Kinne Library.

For Herrington, the act of creating is an attempt to understand connections. He uses primarily glacial erratics, stones which are carried by glacial ice for hundreds of kilometers, to create magnificent sculptures. Herrington will be joined by Borns, professor emeritus at the School of Earth and Climate Sciences at the University of Maine. The two will discuss the stones Herrington uses in his sculptures and the journey of the stones, both artistically and geologically.

The talks are open to the public, free of charge, and are sponsored by The First and First Advisors. Attendees are encouraged to view the 2015 Exhibition, “Is it Art or is it Science,” currently on display at the laboratory.
