Art auction benefits library

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — An art auction opening reception will be held at the Southwest Harbor Public Library on Sunday, July 26, from 5:30-7 p.m. The auction will continue through Aug. 26.

Mount Desert Island has been an inspiration for a wide variety of talented artists, starting with Fredrick Church, Thomas Cole and other painters of the Hudson Valley School back in the 1800s. The library celebrates this rich tradition of art with an art auction each year and shares the proceeds with the artists 50-50.

Art may be purchased immediately at the “Buy It Now” price, or silent bids may be placed on the artwork. Even if you are not interested in purchasing art, this is a beautiful, varied show and well worth a visit to the library.
